mowbray

listening to:.....

arab strap - the first big weekend
the album leaf - eastern glow
a silver mt zion - 13 angels standing guard
jens lekman - how much you mean to me
nina simone - lilac wine (album leaf remix)

oh music to make me mournful.

i wake up, walk with the dog in the cemetary.
i pass a man
'morning' he says
'no just taking the dog out'.

arab strap's 'the first big weekend' i first heard on rob da bank's show. when i searched for it on the tracklistings it came up as being a four tet remix which was very rare and only available on 7"... today i searched for the original:

it came up, it played, it was the same.

it's a beautiful scots voice telling a story of a weekend..
search for the lyrics. it takes me back to walking home in the summers.
with my friends, who are very real friends.
beautiful music makes you sad when it makes you mourn people who are alive.

that person who you love a lot and know can sometimes be full of shit but you love enough (so much) not to ever just say you're full of shit. you grin, you bear, and that's why they love you (so much).

if only short bus would wake the whole world up to sexual liberation

we saw it on wednesday.
i thought it was wonderful.
i thought sexual liberation was wonderful.

pan's labyrinth captured well the things we forget about childhood

the fantasy and the frustration.
the serious things that happen to adults also happen to children.
i think men have the ability to be a lot more evil than women.

on thursday, jack, rach and ali, and caz came down to visit in bristol and we went to pubs and the croft and i cant really remember that much other than very happily spending most of friday sat tangled on the sofa, saying the word 'mowbray' over and over.

then this weekend came, and i worked both nights with the same acts and the same jokes. it was ok on friday, better on saturday. a girl called shiv works there and i'm not sure whether i feel intimidated by her (though she is always very nice and funny) or whether there's just some cosmic force that means i can never say anything around her. that stifled the evening a bit.

i think comparatively i may not over analyse everything, though i think i am introspective enough not to look at things in relative terms?

this time last week i went to see new found glory in birmingham with caz and rich. it was a lot of fun though i am so pleased to know while beautiful music with beautiful lyrics did not exist that night, it exists so much elsewhere. there is SO much music and i cannae wait to find it all.

tomorrrow i shall go to london. x
